The Community Company purchased the Girvan’s building in January 2023. A new wholly owned subsidiary company, Tarff Trading Ltd, was set-up to operate the store as a business with the community in mind.
Tarff Trading has a board of directors so if anyone from the community wants to be part of it please put your name forward. Tarff Trading Ltd was supported by the Community Company with a repayable inter-company loan over 10 years to purchase initial stock from Girvan’s and also pays rent to the Community Company for the building.
Tarff Trading Ltd needs to be commercially viable as it cannot be subsidised by the Community Company. However it’s main focus is to remain as a popular and essential community shop so if it only just ‘washes it’s face’ that’s OK.
The recent addition of fresh fruit and veg is a popular suggestion from community members. Tarff Trading Ltd currently have regular deliveries of fresh produce. There is also an excellent supply of home essentials such as kitchen cleaning products and pet food, making Tarff Trading more than just your local hardware store.
The staff are always open to ideas on what to stock so please drop in and make suggestions. We can’t guarantee that we can follow up but we’ll give all suggestions due consideration.
You can even pop in for a chat with Donna, John or Nigel who are always happy to offer advice or guidance. The store is open seven days a week; 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
