Community Housing

A key part of living a happy, healthy life…

We firmly believe that everyone should have the right to a safe, high-quality, affordable home, and that affordable housing is key to regenerating and developing sustainable rural communities. Read more about our community housing…

Affordable and Available

Access to affordable housing is vital for rural communities, for their life, economy and development. After purchasing a flat in Bunoich Crescent in 2017, the Community Action Plan highlighted the continued need for affordable housing. This was reinforced by a Housing Needs Survey which we carried out in 2019.

To meet this need, we bought the Old Convent Land, with the view to using some of it to build new affordable housing. This is exactly what we did, and in 2020-21 we built Caledonian Court, 12 new affordable homes which are now rented to members of the community. You can read more about this amazing project here.

We’re passionate about sustainability at the Community Company, and for this reason, we aim to use renewable energy to heat all our homes. For our work towards net-zero housing, in 2021 we were chosen as finalists for the Carbon Reduction Awards at the Scottish Green Energy Awards.

Bunoich Crescent

In 2021 we secured funding to purchase another 3 bedroom property for affordable rent in Bunoich Crescent.

HOW WE ALLOCATE OUR PROPERTIES

Our Policies

Our aim is to make affordable housing available to both locals and those with a strong connection to the area. We want to give people of all ages and at all stages in life the opportunity to live in the communities they love so much.

This not only benefits our tenants, but in turn also helps sustain local services and contribute to the life of the wider community, fighting rural depopulation.

To learn more about how our affordable housing and allocations work, take a look at our policies.

“I am enjoying my house very much… Being old, my previous house needed maintenance all the time but being here I just pay my rent and I’ve got no worries about that.”

“It’s great to be renting my first home in the community I grew up in.”
