Medical Centre Rebuild

Rising from the ashes…

When the old medical centre was destroyed by fire in October 2015, the area lost a valuable asset. Without a medical practice, locals were forced to travel to either Drumnadrochit or Fort William, an arrangement that was neither preferable or sustainable.

Springing into action, the community saw the opportunity this disaster offered, and in January 2016, overwhelmingly supported the Community Company’s plan to take forward the build and ownership of a new medical centre.

The project was soon underway, thanks to funding and support from SSE, Stronlairg Windfarm, Falck Renewables…. Glengarry Trust also provided valuable support and funding, in recognition of the close connection our communities share, and the service the medical centre provides for members of that community as well.

The project not only offered the chance to rebuild the medical centre, but to improve and expand on the services offered. Working with Allan Lindsay Architecture and Compass Building Services, we worked to create a state of the art medical centre, double the size of the old one, with room enough for it to become a one stop shop for all things health related.

£1 million in the making, the new Cill Chuimen Medical Centre now provides a range of health services, supports local employment, and will continue to be a great asset to the communities for many years to come.

The new Cill Chuimein Medical Centre was officially opened in April 2019, and we were thrilled to welcome funders, supporters and friends from the community to celebrate this great achievement.
