Our grant program has seen many groups receive funding which in turn has seen projects developing the community in different ways. This ranges from sport and leisure activities to community development groups.
Glenmoriston Heritage Group
In the summer of 2022, the Glenmoriston Heritage Group recognised the need to repair the Well of St Columba which represents one of the very few tourist attractions in Invermoriston. The well had, over the years, sustained damage and become unsafe.
Aged and weather-beaten wood had rotted over the years creating slip and trip hazards for unsuspecting visitors and even community members who were aware of the depleting condition of the steps, balustrade and handrail.
Closure of this heritage site was inevitable and the reconstruction was prioritised by the Glenmoriston Heritage Group.
This legendary well, once plagued by evil spirits, had its water purified by St Columba and now possesses healing properties reportedly aiding rheumatism and even hangovers since around 565AD. More recently, the Glenmoriston Heritage Group successfully applied for £4,250 to reconstruct the staging, balustrade and handrail.

The existing timber was replaced with eco-friendly composite with non-slip properties making it safe for locals and visitors to enjoy with reduced risk of slipping or tripping.
Members of the community attended the opening and witnessed the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and some shared stories of growing up in Invermoriston including travelling to school on a horse and cart!
This worthy project makes the well once again accessible to the community and provides a small area of tranquillity from an otherwise busy main road.
In support of this project, the Community Company released funds of £4,250. We are delighted to play a part in the Glemoriston Heritage Group’s vision to restore this legendary area.
