Working in partnership to make home care easier…
We don’t just develop projects ourselves. We actively collaborate with partner organisations to bring about positive change in our communities.
Sustainable healthcare and travel
The care at home services provided by Sunflower Home Care are absolutely vital to our rural communities. Home care was identified as a top priority in the 2018 Community Action Plan, and it remains so. The voluntary group 3 Glens Community Care was set up to make this happen.
Given the very large geographical area covered by care workers, access to reliable vehicles is of the utmost importance, and lack of transport can be a hindrance to recruitment.
In response to this challenge, we worked in partnership with Glengarry Trust, 3 Glens Community Care and Sunflower Home Care to provide 3 electric cars and 2 e-bikes for care workers to use.
Following a successful application to SSE Renewables Sustainable Development Fund we were able to realise this project.

Benefits of project
- Reduces journey time for carers working in Fort Augustus who would normally walk.
- Makes carer role more attractive to new and existing carers, leading to greater job retention and recruitment.
- Reduces carbon emissions.
- Cheaper to run than petrol or diesel cars.
