Convent Land

The Community Company own the Convent Land and are currently investigating potential uses for it. This significant purchase is indicative of the community’s vested interest in the area and is certain to be an exciting project for years to come.

The purchase of the Convent Land was supported by the Beinneun Community Fund. The Community Company benefited from a grant of £100,000 ensuring the plans for the purchase became a reality.

Furthermore, FERN Community Funds committed to funding the three year employment of the Convent Land Development Officer who will manage the site’s projects.

The Convent Land Development Officer will work closely with the Board of Directors and the community to research and implement plans for the land’s development.

Currently, there is an abundance of background work taking place as ideas for use of the Convent Land are in discussion and investigation.

Implementation of these ideas cannot, of course, take place without the community’s input. Chris, the Convent Land Development officer is keen to hear your ideas and thoughts on what should happen next. Maybe it can be sustainably developed for the community’s benefit or maybe you think it should be maintained as it is.

Let us know what you think. Email Chris at conventland@communitycompany.co.uk

Entrance to the Nuns’ Graveyard

In November 2023, Convent Land Development Officer, Chris Rose, held a community consultation in Fort Augustus. This was an opportunity for the wider community to discuss potential uses for the land and to put across their own ideas.

This consultation was followed by other consultations at Invermoriston and Dalchreichart. The consultations included an informal voting system for your favourite ideas and the chance to comment, positive or negative, on a range of potential uses for the land.

The consultations will give Chris a broader vision of what the community want to happen with the land. And what not to happen.

Chris is currently compiling all the data from the consultation and will report on it soon.
